Katie Schoultz is one of the three founding partners of Schoultz & Partners, having made the decision, together with Jiri Simecek and Rostislav Sustek, to set up Schoultz & Partners in 2007. Before that she had spent six years working for the major US law firm, White & Case, in Prague, following on from two years with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson in New York, and four with Gouldens (now Jones Day) in London.
Schoultz is a qualified English solicitor, New York attorney and licensed Czech foreign advocate. She specializes in real estate investment, corporate mergers and acquisitions, international arbitration and general commercial deals, particularly where they involve English law, English language documents or the need to interpret legalese for clients into understandable commercial language.
During her years working in Prague, Schoultz has made a name for herself through her expertise in the structuring and managing of share and asset deals for many of the largest western property investors in the CEE region, with an emphasis on cross-border share and asset deals and advice on doing business in the Czech Republic. Working out of Prague, she has managed the legal side of projects in Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania, as well as the Czech Republic.
Schoultz is also an experienced international arbitration specialist on the Czech Arbitration Chamber's list of approved arbitrators, and is available for appointment on request.
Jiri Simecek met Katie Schoultz when they worked together at White & Case in Prague as part of that firm's real estate team. Together with Rostislav Sustek, they left to set up Schoultz & Partners in 2007. Simecek has been practicing law in the Czech Republic since 1997, having previously studied in Prague, Paris, The Hague and New York. Simecek is a qualified Czech advocate and Attorney and Counselor-at-Law at the New York State Bar.
Simecek specializes in project development and acquisition finance, joint ventures and restructuring, construction and leasing and real estate investment.
Since setting up Schoultz & Partners, Simecek has been involved in several deals that require the cooperation of tax advisors in order to maximize investment returns, real estate due diligence (land and buildings), and the preparation of reports for both Czech-based investors and others in the CEE region. He has extensive experience in the drafting and negotiation of acquisition agreements for both asset and share (SPV) deals, bank financing documentation, shareholder loans, joint venture arrangements and shareholder agreements, as well as the management of the whole process through to the successful closing of the transaction.
Simecek is highly valued by his clients as a superior problem solver and legal strategist.
Rostislav Sustek has been practising law in the Czech Republic since 1999, having completed his studies at the Charles University School of Law, where his focus was on civil law, particularly compensation for damage and civil procedures. Since qualifying, Sustek worked for a number of reputable firms in Prague before joining Schoultz and Simecek to set up Schoultz & Partners in 2007.
Sustek has extensive and hands-on experience in the representation of clients before the Czech courts, including counselling on disputes with insurance companies, advising vehicle lessees in disputes with leasing companies, handling disputes arising from security instruments (bills of exchange, promissory notes, cheques, shares, etc), debt collection and damage compensation claims.
Sustek is now regarded as one of the leading advocates in the Czech Republic in relation to the representation of creditors in bankruptcy proceedings and the resolution of commercial disputes.
